So today is day two of non-stop down pouring rain in Connecticut. Just a little over a week ago we were hit with Hurricane Irene who came with lot’s of rain and wind, leaving trees down all over and no electricity in most homes in this state. Some days have been so extremely humid and others, like today, cool in the low 60′s. It’s been a bit of a downer, this weather. Where is the consistency? I am just so ready for the leaves to turn, the air to become cool and crisp. I am ready for boots, sweaters, scarves and warm, cozy drinks. But right now, I’d just take a little sunlight.
(This photo gives my grumpy attitude about all this rain a swift kick in the bum!)

I know I have been majorly M.I.A. but we have been so busy lately. My hubby just started a new job that requires him to be away for training, etc… for a month! So before he left we decided we take a little time to be together and so we booked an amazing oceanfront suite at Blue in Plum Island in Massachusetts. I can not stop raving about this place! It took us about two hours to drive there, but we felt like we were thousands of miles from home. The room feels so fresh and inviting in all white tones, from the floors to the bed to the furniture. There are french doors that open to a gorgeous patio with a completely unobstructed view of the ocean. Each day a beautiful breakfast basket was delivered with fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal, croissants and juice. We literally spent our whole time lounging on the beach, in the most comfortable chairs and under an umbrella, set up for us by the staff. As the sun beat down on us, we stayed cool, as the staff come around with ice cold beverages for their guests. In the evening we borrowed the hotel’s bicycles and rode into town for dinner, followed by ice cream….of course. At night we would sit in our room, start our fire place, leave the french doors open and watch and listen to the crashing waves. It was a magical escape.
Check out some of our photos!

I LOVE to purchase gifts for people. It’s my favorite. Recently I found Catstudio and they sell the most fabulous items all featuring state, city, countries, regions and even state park themes. But what I am dying for is the throw pillows. I can think of so many people I could get these for. I need the Connecticut pillow for myself. It would be perfect in the living room…or the bedroom…or literally any room. When thinking of this pillow for gift giving a million ideas come into mind. As a bridal party gift would be fantastic, each bridesmaid may hold a different place near and dear to their heart-their favorite city or their home-state. Or how about a wedding shower gift: say the couple each grew up in different states-then one for the bride or one for the groom. OR (so excited), how about as a baby shower gift? So perfect on a rocking chair in the nursery. I just LOVE these for gifts! Check them out!

Every time I see an incredible backdrop from an wedding or other event, I bookmark it and since I do I figured today I just had to share them with you all! Sometimes there is nothing like a ceremony that takes place under a beautiful tree-no drama and I love that, but then there are some very dramatic backdrops, creating focal points that are to die for! Check out some of these!

Happy Friday: Make it Colorful
Hi Lovlies! The forecast for Connecticut is a bit drab, but I will try to enjoy it anyway! I have a movie date with my bestie and some DIY projects, so I think, regardless of the weather, it’ll be a fine weekend! Make it colorful-even if the sky isn’t!

I love how with every season I crave specific things and in the Summer it’s ice cream, iced coffee and popsicles. I have been seeing so many fabulous homemade popsicles online-even at events and I am loving it. I’ve been devouring coconut popsicles, but I bought them from the grocery store. This weekend I will embark on a homemade batch. If you plan to throw any Summertime parties, consider this-your guests will love it. I promise.

Some of these Summer days have brought us HOT temps…I’m talking 100 plus degrees. I was blessed that when hubby and I tied the knot in July ( a few years back) it was only 85 degrees out, so not only was I super comfortable, but so were our guests! But for those brides who were married this Summer, they definitely battled some major heat. At the end of the day, your wedding dress should fulfill your bridal dreams so if that means taffeta gown in August then so be it (but I’d recommend I more comfy reception dress)! But if it were me getting married this Summer I would definitely consider a fun, short dress. Check out this line up of short bridal dress Love and Lobster put together. To die!! (Especially the first one on the top left!)

Ok, A Subtle Revelry has done it again! Seriously, if you have not checked out this blog you are missing out. Today they hit me with a DIY I absolutely will be trying! Painted silverware! Yes, they sell edible spray paint (in case you were thinking, “I’m not eating off of fresh paint!”-no worries!)! I am so excited about this for events. I love memorable details at events and you can’t tell me you wouldn’t remember this! I love the idea of leaving a number on the utensil as the table number and it acting as the escort card. It may be a bit of an undertaking for a large event like a wedding (although, I still say, Go for it!), but would be so adorable for something like a shower. So click here for directions and join me in giving this a try!

My Hubby is always talking about “guys days/nights” and I think us ladies need to follow suit. I have talked in a previous post about girls days, but couldn’t resist sharing this little inspiration from The Party Dress for a Ladies Game Night! I love this idea and think I need to get one in the works. When the boys are away the girls will play!
